RESEARCH & REVIEW
The evidence behind your training.
HYROX-specific training research is still limited. We separate established principles, race rules and our own programme choices.
Training from your current baseline
In 60 trained male runners, a 16-week study compared sequences of pyramidal and polarised intensity distributions. It supports deliberate easy and harder work; it does not validate Eightpace’s opening percentages, quality-minute caps or HYROX prescriptions.
Primary sourceResistance-training principles
The 2026 ACSM position stand supports consistent, individualised resistance training for healthy adults. The research does not validate Eightpace’s exact frequency, loading or station doses.
Primary sourceHYROX performance across seven seasons
This 2026 observational analysis covers PRO and ELITE races. Running and loaded stations contribute substantially to performance. It does not test an intervention or validate these beginner doses.
Primary sourceRunning demands
An observational study of 11 experienced recreational athletes highlights the importance of running. It does not validate our exact interval doses.
Primary sourceEasy effort and Zone 2
This 2025 narrative review challenges treating Zone 2 as uniquely optimal in the general population. It does not prescribe an exact run length for HYROX. We use conversational effort and baseline-dependent progression, without pretending to measure a physiological zone.
Primary sourceRunning progression
This 2025 prospective cohort links single-session distance spikes with injury occurrence. It does not prove a universal safe percentage or validate a time-based beginner progression. Current ability and qualified review remain important.
Primary sourceRunning intensity
A small runner trial informs the discussion of easy and harder work. It does not establish a universal Zone 2 percentage or a HYROX schedule.
Primary sourceStrength alongside running
A 43-study review supports considering concurrent training carefully. It does not prove our sets, weekly frequency or spacing rule.
Primary sourceTaper
Endurance research supports reducing volume before competition. It does not test Eightpace’s exact HYROX taper.
Primary sourceRace format
The current official Singles rules define sequence and distances. Training loads are not assumed to equal race loads.

Reviewed by a certified HYROX trainer. This covers the current programme rules, including the starting workload, familiar quality running and race-goal calculator. Each person still needs to check that the plan fits their circumstances. Research informs the principles; exact doses are authored programme choices.
